Plumbing for Bathroom and Kitchen Remodels

We handle the plumbing side of your renovation: new layouts, rough-in, tub-to-shower conversions and final fixture installation, done to code and inspected.

A remodel is one of the best chances you’ll get to upgrade the plumbing you never see. Once the tile is set and the cabinets are in, the pipes behind them are locked in for years. K&K Plumbing provides bathroom and kitchen remodel plumbing for Central Florida homeowners and contractors, from early layout decisions to the final fixture install.

The four phases of remodel plumbing

1. Planning

Before demolition, we look at where your drains, vents and supply lines run, what the new layout requires, and whether anything you’re hoping for is impractical. Moving a toilet a few feet in a slab home is a very different job than moving a vanity faucet. Early answers prevent expensive change orders.

2. Rough-in

With walls open, we install or relocate drains, vents and supply lines, set shower valves and tub drains, and stub out connections for every fixture. This is also the moment to replace old supply piping and shutoff valves in the remodeled area.

3. Inspection

Rough plumbing is inspected before walls are closed when a permit is required. We schedule it and meet the inspector.

4. Trim-out

After tile, cabinets and countertops are in, we return to install toilets, faucets, shower trim, sinks, the disposal and appliance connections, then test everything.

Bathroom projects we handle

  • Tub-to-shower conversions. One of the most requested updates in Central Florida, especially for homeowners planning to age in place. It involves a new drain location, a new valve, and often a curbless or low-threshold pan.
  • Shower valve upgrades. Pressure-balanced or thermostatic valves keep water temperature steady.
  • Double vanities. Adding a second sink means a new drain and supply branch.
  • Comfort-height toilets and grab-bar-friendly layouts. Our toilet installation service covers fixture selection.
  • Freestanding tubs, which need floor-mounted drains and supply.

Kitchen projects we handle

  • Sink relocation, including island sinks, which require special venting solutions
  • Prep sinks and bar sinks
  • Pot fillers over the range
  • Dishwasher and refrigerator water lines
  • Garbage disposals and instant hot water dispensers
  • Gas range connections for kitchens switching from electric

Florida-specific remodel considerations

Most Central Florida homes are built on a concrete slab, which means drain changes involve cutting and patching concrete. That’s very doable, but it should be planned and priced from the start. Homes from the 1970s through 1990s may also have polybutylene or aging copper lines that make sense to replace while walls are open. Hard water is another factor: if you’re investing in new fixtures, consider protecting them with a water softener. And if you’re adding a large soaking tub or multiple shower heads, check that your water heater can keep up.

Understanding costs

We don’t publish remodel prices because no two projects are alike. Plumbing costs depend on how many fixtures move, whether slab work is needed, the valves and fixtures you choose, permit fees, and the condition of existing pipes. For a deeper look at what drives the numbers, see our article on kitchen remodeling costs in Florida. We provide an upfront quote once we’ve seen the space and your plans.

Decisions to make before demolition

A short list of answers up front keeps the project on schedule:

  • Will any fixture move, and how far?
  • Are you switching from a tub to a walk-in shower?
  • Do you want a thermostatic valve, handheld shower, or body sprays?
  • Is the existing water heater large enough for the new fixtures?
  • Should original supply piping in the remodeled rooms be replaced?
  • Where will the new shutoff valves be accessible?

Working with your contractor

We’re glad to coordinate schedules with your general contractor so plumbing rough-in and trim-out land at the right points in the project. If you’re managing the remodel yourself, we’ll help you sequence the plumbing around the other trades.

Bath & Kitchen Remodeling — FAQ

Do you do the whole remodel or just the plumbing?

We focus on the plumbing. That includes planning, rough-in, inspections, and final fixture installation. We work alongside your general contractor, tile setter and cabinet installer, and if you do not have a contractor yet, we can suggest trusted partners we have worked with. Keeping the plumbing in licensed hands is what matters most for code and long-term reliability.

Do I need a permit for a bathroom remodel?

Swapping a faucet or toilet in the same location generally does not. Moving drains, adding fixtures, replacing a shower valve, or changing the water heater usually does. Requirements depend on your city or county. We pull plumbing permits when they are needed and schedule the inspections so the work is documented.

Can you move a sink or toilet in a slab home?

Yes, but it takes planning. Drains in slab homes run through the concrete, so relocating a toilet or sink usually means cutting a trench, rerouting the drain with proper slope, and patching the slab. We will look at your layout and explain what the move involves before you finalize the design.
