Clogged drains in Leesburg are rarely random. Kitchens back up because of years of grease, showers slow because of hair and soap, and whole houses back up because something has gone wrong in the sewer lateral running out to the street. K&K Plumbing handles drain cleaning Leesburg FL property owners need, from a single sink to the main line, and we use a camera to find out why the clog happened so it does not keep coming back.
Why lakeside and historic neighborhoods back up
Leesburg grew up around Lake Harris and Lake Griffin, and plenty of homes near downtown and Venetian Gardens are decades old. Many of those houses still drain through clay tile or cast iron sewer pipe. Both materials were standard in their day, but neither ages gracefully:
- Clay joints shift as the sandy soil settles, leaving gaps that tree roots find quickly.
- Cast iron rusts from the inside, creating a rough, scaly surface that snags paper and waste.
- Mature oaks and other shade trees send roots toward the moisture in a leaking line and can fill a pipe within a few seasons.
Newer subdivisions and commercial buildings around the city typically have PVC sewer pipe, which resists roots far better. Their problems tend to come from use instead: grease from busy kitchens, wipes that do not break down, and buildup in lines that carry heavy daily flow.
Camera first, then the right tool
We would rather look than guess. A waterproof camera on a flexible cable travels through the line and shows us the problem in real time, along with the depth and location so we can mark it in the yard if repair is needed. You can watch the screen with us.
Cable machines for targeted clogs
A drain cable with the right cutting head clears hair, paper and soft obstructions in sinks, tubs and toilets quickly. It is the right answer for many single-fixture clogs.
Hydro jetting for grease, scale and roots
When a pipe is coated with grease or full of fine roots, a cable just punches a hole through the middle. Hydro jetting uses high-pressure water to scour the full diameter of the pipe, which is why it lasts longer on recurring problems. Our article comparing hydro jetting and snaking explains when each makes sense.
Clues that the main line is the problem
Watch for these signs, which point past a single fixture to the sewer lateral:
- The toilet gurgles or bubbles when the washing machine drains.
- Water comes up in the shower when you flush.
- Several drains on the same floor are slow at once.
- You notice sewer odor outdoors near the cleanout or indoors near floor drains.
If sewage is already backing up, stop running water and call; that is an emergency plumbing situation rather than something to schedule next week.
When cleaning is not enough
Sometimes the camera shows a cracked, offset or collapsed section that no amount of cleaning will fix. In that case we explain the repair options, the access required and the upfront price, and we keep the digging to the area that actually needs it. Homes with failing cast iron throughout may also benefit from a broader look at the plumbing, similar to what we do in Leesburg repiping evaluations.
Keeping lines clear
A few habits go a long way: scrape plates into the trash instead of the disposal, run hot water after using the kitchen sink, and skip so-called flushable wipes. Our guide on preventing drain clogs in Florida homes has a longer checklist.
